Here are a few of the options that are available to you as you are thinking about all of your orthodontic options. Making this decision armed with information makes your choice all the easier!

  • Traditional Metal Braces: We all know what these look like, and love them or hate them, they get the job done. Traditional metal braces- worn by teens everywhere- are the most common type of braces. There have been many advancements in braces technology these days which makes wearing traditional braces more comfortable than ever. They are typically made with high quality stainless steel. The use of metal brackets and archwires pulls your teeth into the correct position. For teenagers, it is particularly fun to add colored rubber bands to the brackets for color and pizzaz! While traditional metal braces are obviously noticeable, for many teenagers this option is one that many of their friends use.
  • Gold Braces: Gold braces are very similar in structure and function to traditional metal braces, the key difference being that these braces are coated in gold. This is typically a choice that is a cosmetic decision and tends to cost more than traditional braces.
  • Ceramic Braces: While the structure and function of ceramic braces are very similar to that of metal braces, these braces are a bit more brittle and break more easily than their metal counterparts. This does not have to be a concern, but it does mean that these braces require more upkeep and maintenance. The main selling point of ceramic braces lies in their material. Ceramic braces are much less visible than metal and so are an attractive option to older adults and teens with cosmetic concerns.
  • Lingual Braces: These braces can be thought of as “inside out” braces. They are completely invisible because they are placed behind a patient’s teeth rather than on the front of their teeth! This system is completely customizable and is great for people for whom traditional braces will get in the way. For example, athletes and wind instrument players have obvious concerns when it comes to traditional braces.

Orthodontics are most successful when customized by a great orthodontist like Amazing Smiles!
